Simply Serve Limited moving Yeovil Hospital towards "Zero to Landfill"

THE CHALLENGE

Simply Serve were looking to independently assess the innovative solutions that they have developed, benchmark their provision against others in their sector and region, and access some new and external solutions that a company like Sitemark might be able to put forward.

THE SOLUTION

Sitemark’s independent benchmarking review provided the ideal solution. A broad infrastructure audit was conducted. The process included an in-depth evaluation of the data associated with the various services, including hazardous and clinical medical waste streams.

THE RESULT

Sitemark identified that there are alternative solutions to the small volume of material currently going to landfill solutions and material could be diverted from them via various suppliers creating a “zero to landfill” environment.
Rebate opportunities were identified among WEEE and IT waste solutions and these contributed to about 18% of potential reductions in the non-clinical waste streams.
Simply Serve have opportunities to increase recycling via the two on-site bio-digestors. Measuring through put will allow gains in their recycling rate.
Sitemark identified just over 50 opportunities to drive change and further embed recycling into the Yeovil facility. The matrix supplied around these will help prioritise solutions in the future.
The benchmarking review confirmed that Simply Serve have been extremely innovative in managing their recycling and waste processes. This is reflected in the recycling rate at just under 50% which for an acute NHS facility is a very good performance.
