Case study - Saddleworth School
Saddleworth School restore control and boost efficiency

CHALLENGE

Saddleworth School's cleaning contractor was failing to meet sufficient standards of cleanliness and adequate levels of staffing. Complaints from staff, pupils and other building users were mounting and the loss in cleaning productivity was estimated to be 42%.

"We knew we had to bring our cleaning back in-house to gain greater financial and operational control, but we lacked necessary cleaning knowledge."

Garrie Smith, Business Manager, Saddleworth School.

SOLUTION

i-Clean consultants completed a detailed analysis of documentation, policies andprocedures, comprehensive site assessment and benchmarking efficiency review. The report of findings, reviewed by senior management at Saddleworth Schoolformed the blueprint for the new in-house cleaning team and cleaning managementsystem, which i-Clean saw through to implementation.

"We also have an electronic auditing tool so we can collect data on a regular basis to measure our progress and performance. We want to know we are consistently meeting the standard, so our next step is to achieve and retain i-Clean Site Certification to evidence our good work."

Both teams worked in close conjunction to tight pre-set timeframes and within Council procedures and systems through to tender appointment.

RESULT

"The school looks and feels much cleaner and complaints have diminished. A key part for us is on-goingi-Clean Site Certification. We want to know we are meeting best practice, to celebrate our successes and to evidence budget well spent to our Governors.

Ultimately, we pride ourselves on providing a good learning enviroment. While there's a number of ways to do this, having a clean school is definitely one of them. It improves health and productivity and like the broken window theory, a clean tidy school will increase our students respect for their environment."
