Recycling and Waste Benchmarking Review identifies multiple
opportunities across the Royal Veterinary College building portfolio
CHALLENGE
The college has two sites located in London and The South East and employs
numerous providers; it was looking for opportunities to consolidate the provision over
its wide range of recycling and waste streams, and to identify improved solutions for
the material being discarded on a regular basis.
SOLUTION
Sitemark was commissioned to undertake a benchmarking review that incorporated
both facilities, investigating all recycling and waste categories and evaluating the way
in which each was managed, from the moment material was produced, to its end of
life solution. This included an inspection of all consoles, analysis of scheduled
collections, and examination of costs associated with the removals.
RESULT
Sitemark, through their processes and measurements, identified cost savings
amounting to just over 25% of the commercial / household removal budgets, and
opportunities to increase the volume of materials recycled on a regular basis. Through
the benchmarking element of the review they also identified areas where the
organisation can look in the future to obtain improved market rates for services.
"Working with Sitemark who were recommended by others in the higher education
sector, we were able to put a project plan in place that would enable us to make clear
knowledge-based decisions in the future regarding recycling and waste strategies. We
now have the ability to start managing our processes and requirements with additional
strategies provided by Sitemark."
