Rising costs in Recycling and Waste
The Pandemic and Brexit have created a perfect storm for British businesses, with many in recent weeks experiencing staff shortages and, this week, fuel shortages. The recycling and waste industry is particularly susceptible to these difficulties due to the nature of the work.
Plants, such as material recycling facilities, are struggling to retain processing staff and they, and waste movers, have been affected by the heavy goods vehicle driver shortage. Additionally, there have been numerous buyouts across the industry (

Consequently, service providers may increase costs during the early part of the Autumn 2021, and most certainly by Spring 2022.
What can you do to mitigate these increases?
- Identify new on-site solutions
- Check your bin configurations
- Check your contract for costly clauses
- Increase your recycling streams
